ALLISON K. MELKIE, MA, LPC
For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a counselor. I have no idea why, but even as an adolescent, I was drawn to people and trying to help figure out what makes them tick. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the most important part of the counseling experience. Both client and counselor need to feel that the environment is a safe space, allowing the therapeutic process to take place. That starts at the beginning, where it’s very important for me that the client, whether new or established, feels that trust and can begin opening up.
I have worked on several different sides of the counseling world – private practice, inpatient hospital and for a mental health insurance company. This has given me a larger view in helping people better their lives. I have an extensive background in working with Adolescents, but I also specialize in a host of other issues like, anxiety/phobias, women’s issues, chronic pain, grief and loss and depression. Health and wellness are very important in my own life, but also in my counseling practice. I strongly believe that so much of our physical well-being directly effects our mental well-being as well.
